Bulbs for Biodiversity 2026 - Supporting Pollinators in your Playground
Would you like the opportunity to support pollinators in your playground? 🐝🦋
Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub are offering primary schools and nurseries in Lanarkshire the chance to be part of this year’s Lanarkshire Climate Action Festival (7-20 September 2026) by providing packs of FREE sustainably sourced wildflower bulbs.
Following the success of this project in 2025 with Lanarkshire highschools, this year we are opening up the opportunity to primary schools and nurseries.
The important details:
🗓️ The bulbs need to be planted in school grounds or suitable containers during the festival fortnight (7-20 September 2026).
💫 Complete the short questionnaire before 24 August 2026
Packs are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The ‘Bulbs for Biodiversity’ pack contains:
🪻Over 120 bulbs including wild daffodils, allium and wild tulips
A guide on how to plant them and the benefits for biodiversity
🌼 An ‘Indoor Daffodil Growing Kit’ for the classroom (with bulbs and instructions)
Why are we offering wildflower bulbs?
The Climate Action Festival looks to engage everyone in Lanarkshire – from individuals to community groups, businesses to education establishments. Planting wildflower bulbs in autumn helps to support biodiversity by creating a supply of pollen and nectar for pollinators to feed on in spring.
Insects emerging from hibernation over winter, such as Queen Bumblebees, seek out spring-flowering bulbs as vital food source when identifying suitable nesting sites to establish new colonies.
Pollinators such as bees, moths and hoverflies all play a vital role in plant reproduction, including many of the fruit and vegetables we eat. Planting a selection of wildflowers with different flowering times extends the period when pollen and nectar is available for pollinators.
We have selected bulbs which have been sustainably sourced to ensure no harmful chemicals were used during their production.
How do I apply?
Complete this short questionnaire before 24 August 2026. Packs will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and the planting must take place on school grounds (directly into the ground, in raised beds or suitable containers) between 7-20 September 2026.
Packs will be delivered to successful applicants during the first week of September.
By applying for a ‘Bulbs for Biodiversity’ pack from Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub you confirm that the necessary permissions to plant wildflower bulbs in or around nursery and school grounds have been obtained.
